During my high school days, my sister underwent a chronic surgery in spinal cord, as she had a bad disc ache and spinal cord inflammation. I was then shocked with the word surgery, as I wondered what actually happens in that process. I was amazed at how a surgical procedure would be and how we could cut the body and how it will get back to the original structure. Due to my severe interest in biological science, I decided to go for medical studies and learn about the human body and satiate my thirst to know more about the surgical procedures. With great meticulousness and diligence I devoured all my concepts in Biology lessons to better equip me for my medical studies and this has helped me to understand my concepts well.

My medical studies were good and interesting. I get to study more about the human body and several diseases. I mostly enjoyed lectures in General Surgery. Here I satiated my thirst to learn about surgical procedures and how it gives relief to patients with chronic health conditions. I used to contemplate on how surgeries are life saving for patients who had serious accidents or life threatening diseases and how Doctors act like angels who work to reduce their physical stress.

I enjoyed and learnt a lot during my OT sessions, where I could be part of several life saving surgeries. Seeing my enthusiasm and diligence, even my Professors have commented that I have a great future in General Surgery medicine. I am sure with my hard work and enthusiasm; I can be a good General Surgeon who can heal people not only with medicines and surgeries but also with care and affection. One day, a child was brought to the Operation Theatre as it was vital for him to undergo an operation for a repair of a Congenital Heart Disease. He was of age 3 or 4 which is a very young age to undergo a surgery. The childishness of that infant attracted me and I made a special bond with him before his surgery. When he was taken to Operation Theatre, he was at ease after seeing my face. I was happy that his surgery was successful and he became alright. This entire incident motivated me to confirm my decision to choose General Surgery as my specialization.

I am sure my interest in General Surgery will make me a good surgeon in future. I am sure my curiosity, professionalism and hard work will mould me as a people’s surgeon, who does surgery not only for money but for people’s benefit. With the medical training in Surgery from your residency I hope I will get trained by some of the best Surgeons in the county. Getting trained from several type of surgeries, will surely help me handle different type of diseases and medical cases and I am sure with the right training received from your Residency, I can hone my skills and abilities. Though I have had an unconventional journey, I believe I possess the right talents to nurture myself as a great Surgeon in the future.

My father is a great General Surgeon. As a child I was very happy and proud that my father was a Doctor who cures people’s diseases. I have seen his professionalism and dedication for his work. As a teenager, I made up my mind to be a Doctor in the future just like my father. When a patient comes to him, he tries his level best to cure them with medicines without any surgery as it is very painful and expensive and is unaffordable to poor people. Seeing his enthusiasm and diligence, I too made up my mind to be a GeneralSurgeon just like him.

Initially biology lessons used to bore me, but when I realized that it’s all about me, us and the whole human race, my interest got enhanced. I took up Medicine for my higher education. I really enjoyed my medical lessons, where I got to know more about the human body and its several functions. My medical lessons in surgery interested me as I got to learn in detail about my father’s profession. On seeing and being part of surgeries, I was well aware that it was a life saving marathon conducted by dedicated professionals.

One day I assisted in the surgery of a teenager who had a growth in his brain. He was very nervous, as he was aware of the seriousness of the situation. I tried to console him and chatted with him for a while. I assured him this surgery would surely save his life and there is no threat to his life. Getting assurance from a Doctor made him more confident and energetic. He underwent surgery with great hope that this surgery will bring him back to his normal life. Before getting discharged from the hospital after surgery, he met me and thanked me for boosting his energy and cheering him up. I was happy with this incident, and it inspired my decision to be a General Surgeon like my father. I believe a Surgeon has a power to heal and alter the life of patients and I am sure with this profession I can heal lot of people who are in distress. During my clerkship, I have assisted several surgeries and have gained wide experience on assessing and dressing surgical wounds. And on observing a patient after operation I have got to know several things about their whole experience and mental and physical stress they have undergone while in surgery. I also gained understanding of working of an incision and its time of healing.

I am sure getting trained from the world famous XYZ Residency will help me to mould myself as a Surgeon and be like my father. My father is my greatest inspiration, and I am sure this training tenure will better help me to prepare myself as a Surgeon and cure people’s disease. I hope from the training received from your Residency I can be well versed in various type of surgeries and OR procedures. With the experience gained, I hope I too can one day train future aspiring medical professionals in their Residency training in General Surgery. With my inquisitive behavior and hard working mentality, I am sure I can serve lakhs of people and bring them back to life.
