Example 1 – Emergency Medicine Personal Statement

During one of my medical rounds, I was surprised by my fellow mate’s comment “I foresee an Emergency Medicine Physician in you”. It was his way of complimenting my service and work ethics, but I was surprised by his comment. I contemplated by self questioning, do I possess enough qualities that match the profile of an Emergency Medicine physician? But my further medical rounds gave me the answer I sought, because I was quite enthusiastic about moving around and treating people with casualties. I moved my hands quickly, when someone comes after a heavy accident. I really enjoyed my medical rounds on causality wards, as it gave me the chance to provide first hand medications to several people who reach out to me after accidents, fever or heart attack, etc.

I still remember the 9 year old girl who made a ruckus in our ward when she was told to take a dose of injection due to high fever. The nurses tried their best to bring the situation under control, but she wasn’t convinced. But I conversed with her and tried to know more about her problem, meanwhile nurses gave the shot and the situation came under control. So all these instances made me aware of my emergency medicine capabilities and I got curious to know more about my field of interest.

I am proudof my ability to quickly build a bond with patients. I was always saved by my empathy and friendly nature. I like to be a relieving hand when people come with any serious medical situation.I remember a grandmother who was brought to the emergency room with chest pain. I immediately took action and prescribed some medications and shifted her to the intensive care unit. Due to our timely intervention, she was saved. I felt so relieved and proud on that day on being able to save a life. So by the time I finished all of my medical school rotations, I was sure of my specialization and knew that my friend had been right about my higher education. I too was confident because this specialty matched my characteristics and would provide me a chance to hone my decision making skills and utilize my practical medical knowledge.

So now I have made the decision about my higher educational pursuits and am adamant about my future with Emergency Medicine as it would satisfy my inquisitive nature and would enable me to connect with people by being a primary health care supporter for them. I am sureI possess the right skills and capabilities to undergo training and emerge as a competent Emergency Physician. I am quite happy and enthusiastic about the challenges offered by this branch of medicine as one have to be at time be a Family Physician and at some time have to be quick and fast as a Surgeon. With a wide range of medical conditions to treat upon, I really look forward to be part of this vibrant branch of medicine.

I look forward to joining your residency program which will help me to develop my medical skills. I am sure your residency well matches my interest and career aspirations. I look forward to studying under your highly qualified medical professors who will mould me into a caring and competent Emergency Physician, who values patients and their injuries and wishes to develop a strong and healthy physician and patient bond.

Example 2 – Emergency Medicine Personal Statement

Given that my parents are doctors, I didn’t have any intention of entering the medical field nor was I passionate about a medical career until I saw an accident first hand. It was during my high school days that I witnessed a road accident. A car was overturned and cops struggled to take the passengers out. Soon a medical team arrived and gave primary health care and the passengers were soon shifted to the hospital. Due to the timely intervention of the medical team, those passengers were saved. I was moved with the power of a medical practitioner on that day. It is only due to his timely intervention that those couples were saved. That day, I too made up my mind to become an emergency care Physician who helped people in their emergency and critical situations.

As I was much focused on becoming an Emergency Care Physician, I paid detailed attention to this subject during my elementary medical education. I was very keen on topics related to emergency medicine and paid special attention during my medical rounds. I thoroughly enjoyed my medical posting at the emergency care unit and always struggled to care for the people who came there. I still remember an accident case of an elder man who was brought to me during my posting. He was severely wounded; on careful examination we found that he also had cardiac arrest. Due to our timely medical help and diagnoses, his life was saved. My medical experiences at emergency medicine taught me several lessons which I observed carefully for my upcoming emergency medicine career. I always spent a lot of time contemplating and acquiring all the good capabilities and qualities that I was told a good emergency physician should have. I am sure my team player abilities and interpersonal skills would help me sufficiently in my dream career. I believe that my perseverance and passion for this medical field will help me in my journey to become an Emergency Physician. I am sure my love and curiosity for the field are major driving forces behind my decision to pursue Emergency medicine.

The fast paced and unpredictable nature of the Emergency Medicine ward has always fascinated me. During my medical posting in the emergency rooms, I learnt more about this specialization in medicine, and confirmed that emergency medicine was perfect for me. I am sure emergency medicine is the perfect field for me to utilize my capabilities, passion and work ethics. I also dream to become a compassionate medical professional like my parents to help my patients. I am sure with the training received from your medical residency, I can better hone my medical skills.
